2024 BNA Scholars announced
15th March 2024
Contract: fixed term for 36 months.
Salary: £33,199 to £39,609 per annum (Research Fellow),
£40,792 to £48,677 per annum (Senior Research Fellow)
Three Research Fellow or Senior Research Fellow positions are available to study the psychological and neural processes that underpin how humans perceive and remember lifelike events. All positions are available for 3 years in the first instance and funded by a European Research Council Consolidator Grant (“EVENTS”) awarded to Dr Chris Bird. The project will involve methods including functional MRI, virtual reality, free viewing of movies, neuropsychology and computational modelling.
The postholders will join the Episodic Memory Group at the University of Sussex (www.sussex.ac.uk/psychology/memory/), which aims to understand the cognitive and neural processes that underpin our ability to re-package ongoing experience into coherent events and to recall them later. Our research is characterised by the study of brain responses to naturalistic and life-like events.
The postholders may develop their own lines of research that are in line with the aims of the group. They will have experience of the acquisition and analysis of experimental data in neuroscience or psychology. Experience of analysis of functional MRI data and the use of relevant programming languages (e.g. Matlab, Python) is essential. Experience of using the additional methods described above is desirable. For the Senior Research Fellow position, an established publication track record in the field of episodic memory is desirable.
