Salary
£38,303 to £42,701 per annum, inclusive of London Allowance
Address
UCL Gatsby Computational Neuroscience Unit, London

The Gatsby Computational Neuroscience Unit invites applications for one or more postdoctoral training fellowships in theoretical neuroscience, machine learning and related areas. The Unit is a world-leading centre for research in theoretical neuroscience and machine learning with significant interests in: theories of perceptual processing, neural coding, neural dynamics and learning; the interpretation of neural data; supervised, unsupervised and reinforcement learning; nonparametrics including kernel and Bayesian methods; optimization; and applications of machine learning, particularly to neural data.

We have strong links with experimental neuroscience and cognitive science groups  (particularly in the Sainsbury-Wellcome Centre for Neural Circuits and Behaviour with which the Unit shares a new purpose-built home); with the departments of Computer Science and Statistical Science (with whom we participate in the Centre for Computational Statistics and Machine Learning) and with group at institutions around the world. For further details of our research please see http://www.gatsby.ucl.ac.uk/research.html.

Funding from the Gatsby Charitable Foundation is provided for fellowships as part of a continuing program to train a succession of postdoctoral researchers in theoretical neuroscience and machine learning. Where a position is funded in this way, the  initial appointment will be for a period of up to two years. To ensure the intellectual renewal of the unit, training fellows are not funded by the Foundation beyond a maximum three year period.

Candidates will be required to demonstrate a strong quantitative background in theoretical neuroscience, machine learning, statistics, computer science, physics or engineering; a record of publication in highly respected journals and conferences; and must hold a PhD in a relevant field by the agreed start date of the position.

Collaboration within and outside the Unit is actively encouraged and supported through the provision of a generous annual travel allowance to support conference, workshop and collaborative research visits.
