Job Details
We are one of the world’s leading research centres for the study of prions and their wider relevance to neurodegenerative disease with a growing research activity in Alzheimer’s disease (www.prion.ucl.ac.uk). The Institute is highly multidisciplinary with close integration of structural and molecular biology, genetics, cellular and animal models, small molecule and immuno-therapeutics and clinical research. MRC and UCL have jointly invested £30 million in provision of a dedicated new building in central London for the Institute supporting the vision to expand research in protein misfolding and aggregation in neurodegenerative disease.
We are seeking to recruit a Research Technician to investigate the contribution of epigenetic and genetic mechanisms to prion disease susceptibility and progression. The work includes taking part in a vast array of multidisciplinary projects, working with clinicians, students and postdocs and support the needs of the research team. Experience with RNA work, PCR, quantitative PCR, TaqMan, next generation sequencing is essential. General understanding of neuroscience, genetic, epigenetic, and neurodegeneration is desirable. The postholder is not required to conduct animal experiments.
This position is on an open-ended contract.
Person Criteria
We are seeking an enthusiastic team member with excellent technical skills. The post holder will report to Dr Emmanuelle Vire in the Human Genetic Programme at the Institute led by Professor Simon Mead. Work experience in a molecular laboratory and strong expertise in RNA work. This post requires excellent team working skills, good communication as well as the ability to make sound scientific judgments to enable the delivery of cutting edge research projects.
Expertise in BSL3 laboratory work and in and aseptic tissue culture would be beneficial and a BSc in any subject.
