Applications are invited for the post of Human Tissue Research Tech within the Centre for Neuroscience, Surgery and Trauma in the Blizard Institute, Queen Mary University of London. The Blizard Institute is the largest institute of Barts and the London School of Medicine and Dentistry and aims to deliver excellence in all aspects of research, teaching and clinical service.

Essential requirements for this post include BSc or equivalent in a biologically-relevant area, laboratory experience and exposure to standard procedures employed in biochemical and biological analyses, and in processing and storage of biological tissues, the ability to maintain accurate and up to date records and the ability to organize and prioritise own work and organize research within the project timetable.

The post holder will take overall responsibility for the collection and governance of human gastrointestinal tissues, following procedures already established. The applicant is likely to have a laboratory background and will work with surgeons, theatre staff and pathologists to collect and process GI tissues removed from consenting patients undergoing surgery for obesity, cancer and other conditions. This requires taking informed consent, maintaining good governance in accordance with all existing legislation and gathering relevant clinical data about the patients, adding value to the collected samples.

The post is full time, fixed term position for 2 years. Starting salary will be in the range £27,251 - £33,615 per annum inclusive of London Allowance. Benefits include 30 days annual leave, pension scheme and interest-free season ticket loan.

Candidates must be able to demonstrate their eligibility to work in the UK in accordance with the Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act 2006. Where required this may include entry clearance or continued leave to remain under the Points Based Immigration Scheme.
