Salary: Grade 4 £19,202 - £21,414 per annum. Potential to progress to £23,334 per annum through sustained exceptional contribution.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Technician in the Sheffield Institute for Translational Neuroscience (SITraN). SITraN is a purpose built research facility which was opened in November 2010 by Her Majesty the Queen. The Institute houses clinical and basic scientists from the Department of Neuroscience and the primary focus is research into neurodegenerative disorders such as Motor Neurone Disease (MND), Parkinson’s disease and Alzheimer’s disease.

We are seeking an enthusiastic and experienced individual to join the core technical team within SITraN and provide research technical support for an exciting new role within SITraN. You will be responsible for running high-throughput drug screenings for Pharma companies and maintaining human and mouse stem cells. You will learn how to culture Human fibroblasts and then reprogram into induced neural progenitor cells and maintain the progenitors for further differentiation into human astrocytes and neurons. You will learn a number of cutting edge techniques and your role will be embedded in a very dynamic research group. Team spirit and an impeccable work ethics are essential.

You should have a Degree in biological sciences or equivalent experience. Experience of working in Tissue Culture and knowledge of cell reprogramming/stem cell handling is essential for this role. You should have effective communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to work independently as well as part of a team to meet deadlines.
