This is an outstanding opportunity for a clinical academic to join the Department of Neuroscience and make a contribution to the major themes of neuroscience research at The University of Sheffield. We are seeking a clinician scientist with the potential to strengthen the existing research teams and to develop their own high quality independent research programme in Sheffield. This new post has arisen from a joint strategic initiative between The University of Sheffield and the Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust (STH) to implement our clinical and research plans in relation to neuroimaging and neurodegenerative diseases.

You will integrate into the Department of Neuroscience, which is one of the three constituent departments of The Medical School and within the Clinical Academic Neurosciences Directorate at the Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (Royal Hallamshire Hospital). The detailed job plan will be organised specifically for the appointed person, but it is anticipated that the post will involve a 50% / 50% split of clinical and academic work.

The post represents an exciting opportunity to combine clinical work with a programme of high quality research integrated within the Department of Neuroscience. We are seeking a highly motivated person with a track record of conducting high quality research and clinical expertise in neurology (movement disorders/dementia). The individual will contribute leadership to the development of the Neuroscience MRI PET programme of research and associated clinical applications.

You will be expected to have evidence of academic achievement, for instance in the form of high quality publications and external grant funding awards and to have undertaken a programme of work leading to a PhD or equivalent. You will hold full registration with the GMC, with a substantial number of years’ experience within a clinical service.

The post will be supported by excellent facilities for research, office accommodation and access to clinical and academic secretarial support.

We’re one of the best not-for-profit organisations to work for in the UK.
