The Sussex Neuroscience 4-year PhD Programme is now inviting applications for September 2020 entry. Sussex Neuroscience is a thriving community of over 50 neuroscience research groups based on a single campus. Research strengths cover all areas of contemporary neuroscience: Cellular and Molecular Neuroscience; Circuits, Systems and Computational Neuroscience; Cognitive and Behavioural Neuroscience; Translational and Clinical Neuroscience. The Programme enables you to broaden your experience and training to become fully integrated into the research network before choosing your PhD project. In Year 1 you complete three laboratory rotations from a choice of over 40 across different themes, giving you the chance to explore the approaches and techniques employed by a range of neuroscience disciplines. You can also choose taught courses to suit your background and interests; students may transition to neuroscience from different scientific backgrounds, such as psychology or physical sciences. By the end of the first year, you will be in an excellent position to make an informed choice of PhD project. Professional development support is provided throughout, and the Programme funds opportunities for further training in the UK and abroad. Our campus is home to both the University of Sussex and the Brighton and Sussex Medical School, encouraging a truly integrated environment. The campus is set in beautiful countryside at the edge of the South Downs National Park, and is 10 minutes away from the hugely popular, vibrant seaside city of Brighton. Four fully funded places are available. UK/EU students receive a stipend at the UK research council rate. UK/EU fees are also covered. Students from outside the UK/EU are also encouraged to apply; we can contribute top-up funds for exceptional non-EU students who are able to secure partial external funding.
