Interpreting BOLD iii: Furthering the Dialogue Between Cellular and Cognitive Neuroscience

Cognitive neuroscientists use BOLD signals to non-invasively study brain activity, although the neurophysiological underpinnings of these signals are poorly understood. By bringing together scientists using BOLD/fMRI as a tool with those studying the underlying neurovascular coupling mechanisms, Interpreting BOLD meetings help understand how BOLD relates to brain activity and thus inform future neurovascular and cognitive research.

This exciting in-person meeting will be held in Christ Church, Oxford. To register for the meetings please follow the link below. Abstracts can also be submitted for selected poster and oral presentations during the registration process and will be considered on a rolling basis (limited slots are available). To be considered for an Early Career Researcher fee waiver, please submit you registration and abstract by the end of June.

Topics at the meeting include:

1. Cells and circuits that underlie BOLD
2. Variability in neurovascular coupling
3. Extracting functional connectivity information from BOLD.

Background to the meetings: The first Interpreting BOLD meeting was a 2016 Royal Society Theo Murphy meeting, and you can access the first of two special issues of Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society B associated with the meeting here.  The second took place in 2018 in Christ Church, Oxford and resulted in another associated special issue of Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society B). We also ran an online taster event in September 2021 with talks by Peter Bandettini, Amreen Mughal and Anna Devor.
