Hearing loss and dementia research workshop

External Event - 1st Mar 2023

Time: 3- 4:30pm GMT

Where: Online Zoom meeting

In 2020, a study reviewing risk factors for dementia suggested people with unaddressed midlife hearing loss may be up to five times more likely to have the condition than those without hearing loss. With around 1 million people affected by dementia in the UK, and 12 million people estimated to have a type of hearing loss, it’s never been more important to understand this link.

RNID (the Royal National Institute for Deaf People) and Alzheimer’s Research UK are hosting an online workshop to highlight the current research in the hearing loss and dementia field. The event will consist of talks from Dr Nicolas Michalski, Prof Sally Dawson, Prof Jason Warren and Dr Sergi Costafreda Gonzalez. This will be followed by a panel Q&A session chaired by Dr Bob Carlyon and an opportunity to discuss key research themes in hearing loss and dementia. There will also be an opportunity to find out more about our current joint funding initiative to support research in this area, and details of how to apply.
