02 Feb 2012 - Drug maker AstraZeneca PLC said it will cut another 7,300 jobs as it warned Thursday of a tough year ahead, due to government spending cuts on healthcare and stiff competition, even as it reported a 24 percent increase in 2011 profits. Its need to cut costs had driven the difficult decision to carry out further restructuring -- a move which will see the drug maker reduce its financial exposure to research into disorders of the brain. Alzheimer's Disease - new study sheds light on how brain cells die |

27 Jan 2012 - A new study challenges conventional thinking about how brain cells die in Alzheimer’s disease. The findings demonstrate a previously unknown mechanism by which the cells die and will help lead researchers in new directions for treating the degenerative brain disease. The study by scientists at the University of Calgary’s Hotchkiss Brain Institute is published this week in the prestigious journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS).
