INTERNSHIP WITH FENS: NEUROSCIENCE NETWORK ADMINISTRATION

The internship (convention d'immersion professionnelle) involves training in administrative project management related to research networks and post-graduate training in neuroscience.

The combined goal for the training is for the candidate to gain experience with administration of post-graduate training in neuroscience at an international level and attain proficiency with project communication and long-term management of networkrelated programmes.

Specifically, the programme will include the following training:

  • Project management
  • `Communication (English)
  • Event planning and implementation
  • Database support and maintenance
  • Project accounting (finances)
  • Interim reporting on projects (committee and leadership reports)
  • General office procedures and teamwork

Conceptually, networks in neuroscience can be interpreted as long-term projects with a focus on maintaining and developing shared interests and exchange between scientists or organisations with shared goals. Currently FENS support two networks in the neurosciences.

One network, the European Brain Museums (EBM), is a new initiative by the FENS history committee that spans all FENS member countries and aims at providing an online database of historical research collections, museums, and infrastructures in Europe with relation to neuroscience. The initiative was launched in June 2017 and the management of the project will involve liaising with the FENS history committee, communicating with the involved scientists and with partnering organisations.

Secondly, the trainee will support a network of neuroscience programmes in Europe, which is a long-standing training and coordinating activity of the FENS committee on higher education and training (CHET). The network consists of a growing number of European university programmes that offer higher university degrees in neuroscience (MSc and PhD) and the training will involve practical support for the network administration. Concretely, several coordinating and outreach initiatives are being discussed by CHET that shall be implemented by the trainee in order to help enhance the cohesion and exchange between the programmes.
