Professor Narender Ramnani Steps into Presidency at the British Neuroscience Association
29th April 2025
Applications are invited for a MEG Research Fellow in the Wellcome Centre for Human Neuroimaging, UCL Queen Square Institute of Neurology, under the supervision of Professor Gareth Barnes.
The successful candidate will join the UCL-Nottingham team developing human brain imaging methods using wearable MEG systems based on OPMs (optically pumped magnetometers). The appointee will be involved in all aspects of OPM research from data collection to analysis. The specific focus will be the development of enhanced generative models of brain function that can support the high signal to noise ratio and long-duration recordings available from these new sensors. This work will impact a number of on-going projects, from evaluating pre-surgical mapping approaches in epileptic patients, to cognitive neuroscience based hippocampal imaging, to advanced models of layer specific cortical dynamics.
Applicants should have a PhD in Physics/Biology/Computer Science or related discipline and expertise in modelling/simulation. A mathematical background is essential, as is experience in MEG/EEG and an excellent academic track record with evidence of independent creative work. Programming skills in matlab, python or related high-level language and strong practical and theoretical problem solving abilities are also required. Experience of MEG/EEG software packages and knowledge of volume conductor models are desirable.
The post is available from June 2019, and is funded by a collaborative award from the Wellcome Trust to March 2022 in the first instance. Starting salary on UCL Grade 7 in the range £35,328 - £38,303 pa including London Allowance.
