We are inviting applications for the post of Matron in the Neurosciences Directorate at Oxford University Hospitals Foundation Trust. This is an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated Senior Nurse with experience in managing a wide range of clinical services. 

The Neurosciences Centre is located within the West Wing of the John Radcliffe Hospital. Dedicated Services include the neurology and neurosurgery in-patient wards, a day investigation unit, a 15-bedded neuro-intensive care unit, an operating suite with 14 theatres, a large outpatient department, and neurosciences support services (neurophysiology, neuropathology, neuroradiology - the latter forming part of the radiology directorate). 

As the successful candidate you will be responsible for all nursing within the Directorate, including all inpatient wards, the outpatient department, and a large group of specialist nurses and advanced nurse practitioners. Your role will be to ensure staff support, development, and team work to enhance patient and staff experience. You will join an enthusiastic and supportive team, who will work together to ensure that neurosciences nursing, in conjunction with other aspects of clinical care, are delivered to the highest standard, and in line with the local and national strategy. 

The Matron holds 24 hour responsibility for ensuring the day-to-day running of nursing within the Neurosciences Directorate. This will include: 

  • delivering safe, efficient, and effective patient care
  • providing professional leadership to all nursing staff
  • line managing designated staff
  • meeting key quality and performance indicators
  • taking forward and achieving service improvements
  • meeting financial plans

The postholder will provide professional and management leadership to all nursing staff in the Neurosciences Directorate. As part of the Directorate Leadership Team, the Matron will work across organisational boundaries to achieve the Trust’s corporate objectives, and to deliver local and national standards and strategies.
