We are seeking an outstanding scientist for a 3-year research associate position. This post links to a project funded by the European Research Council (ERC) at the Cardiff University Brain Research Imaging Centre (CUBRIC). The successful candidate will work with Dr Jiaxiang Zhang and other collaborators on the neural mechanisms of human decision-making, integrating multimodal brain imaging and computational modelling. Cardiff University Brain Research Imaging Centre (CUBRIC) houses a unique combination of state-of-the-art facilities and world-leading expertise, with 4 human MRI systems (2 x Siemens Prisma, 1 x Siemens Connectom, 1 x Siemens 7T), MEG, EEG, TMS, tDCS, clinical research units and testing labs. The post is full-time, available from 1 March, 2017 for an appointment of 3 years.
Salary: £32,004 - £38,183 per annum (Grade 6).
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
Research
- To conduct original research within the field of decision-making, including the integration of multimodal brain imaging and multi-level computational modelling.
- To work jointly with the PI and the research team to prepare research publications, undertake presentations at national and international conferences, and provide other summaries of the research undertaken.
- To contribute to related on-going and future projects run by the PI and the research team.
- To develop research objectives, projects or proposals for joint research including – in the later stages of the role – identifying research funding opportunities for these projects.
- To undertake administrative tasks associated with the research project, including the planning and organisation of the project and the implementation of procedures required to ensure accurate and timely reporting.
- To contribute to the supervision of students, at undergraduate and postgraduate level, in methods and applications of cognitive neuroscience, including delivering training in cognitive imaging methods.
- To prepare research ethics and research governance applications as appropriate.
- To participate in School research activities.
- To build and create networks both internally and externally to the university, to influence decisions, explore future research requirements, and share research ideas for the benefit of research projects.
Other
- Help support our engagement with industrial, media, and public sector organisations, professional institutions, other academic institutions, nationally and internationally to raise awareness of research at the school.
- To undergo personal and professional development that is appropriate to and which will enhance performance.
- Any other duties not included above, but consistent with the role in support of the overall activities of the research team and the School.
