The Department of Psychiatry seeks to appoint a research assistant to work with Dr Li Su and Professor John O'Brien on clinical research projects studying involving MR, PET and MEG/EEG brain imaging, about neurocognitive changes related to aging and dementia funded by the Cambridge PD Plus Centre, Alzheimer's Research UK and Lewy Body Society.

The role will be concerned with study co-ordination, subject recruitment and assessment, undertaking cognitive and other assessments, co-ordinating study governance processes (including report writing), managing and maintaining databases for clinical studies. An innovative programme of new longitudinal clinical studies is planned, including multimodal MR, PET and MEG/EEG imaging, to investigate novel biomarkers and mechanisms in Lewy body disorders, Alzheimer's disease, those with increased risk for dementia and in normal controls. The post holder would be encouraged to assist with data analysis and the preparation of manuscripts.

The post holder will be required to work as part of a research team, working closely with others including clinical staff within the NHS (CUHT and CPFT Trusts and clinics), the clinical research network, the renowned Wolfson Brain Imaging Centre and the Biomedical Research Centre. Office accommodation would be located in the Department of Psychiatry on the Cambridge Biomedical Research Campus. The post holder would work within a team of researchers including doctoral and masters students, and visiting researchers. Some travel to other sites involved in the studies as part of the research programmes may be required.

The purpose of this role is to support and maintain the University's national and international reputation for excellence in teaching and research. Contribution to excellence in research will be as a member of a research team carrying out research at a similar level to that undertaken by lecturing staff and will provide substantial scope for academic judgement, originality, interpretation and presentation of results. The role holder will assist with grant administration and the writing of reports for funding bodies. Contribution to teaching will include assistance in the presentation of seminars and may include participation in the research group's teaching programme. The role holder will participate in the overall contribution of the department/faculty, as appropriate.

Applicants should have degree and/or Master's in a relevant subject or equivalent experience, ideally in neuroscience/ psychology/ imaging, or a subject related to or with clear relevance to the skillset needed for this post.
