Professor Narender Ramnani Steps into Presidency at the British Neuroscience Association

The Centre for Restorative Neuroscience’s mission is to undertake ground-breaking research at laboratory level and bring the successes of that research to the bedside for the benefit of patients. The groups within this Centre comprise internationally respected investigators who are working at the cutting edge of restorative research. This bench to bedside approach means that groups are made up of basic scientists, as well as clinicians, allowing a fuller understanding of diseases, their mechanisms and potential treatments. Key areas of current research include stroke recovery, traumatic brain injury, memory and attention and cognitive neuroimaging.
The research programme is led by Dr Scott (NIHR Academic Clinical Lecturer) in the Computational, Cognitive and Clinical Neuroimaging Laboratory (C3NL). C3NL brings together in close collaboration computational scientists (mathematicians, physicists, engineers, and computer scientists), psychologists and clinicians in order to deliver translational neuroscience research.
The research is concerned with developing a novel measure of conscious level by combining a novel method of non-invasive transcranial electrical brain stimulation called temporal interference (developed by Dr Grossman) with electroencephalography (EEG). This project will test whether the relationship between complexity of cortical activity and brain stimulation, called cortical complexity coupling, provides a robust measure of consciousness.
The aim of this post is to carry out experiments and data analysis in healthy participants and later patients with disorders of consciousness (DoC) using brain stimulation and EEG.
The post is funded by the Imperial College Confidence in Concept (ICiC) scheme, which provides pilot funding to bridge the potential gap between discovery research and well-developed applications for further follow-on funding schemes.
You will have First Degree in Neuroscience, Psychology, Biomedical Sciences, Biomedical Engineering, Neurotechnology or other discipline, or equivalent experience
This post is for 12 months in the first instance.
