Applications are invited for a Research Assistant to work on a project under the supervision of Dr Peter Kok that combines human neuroimaging (fMRI and MEG) with advanced analysis techniques and machine learning to shed light on the neural mechanisms underlying the influence of prior knowledge and expectation on visual perception.
The post holder will undertake high-quality research and gain substantial experience and training. Duties include identifying and recruiting suitable participants, acting as first point of contact for all research and study-related queries, providing administrative and project support for the study as required, assisting with brain scanning of participants, performing quality control and initial statistical analysis of study data collected, and working on study publications and presentations.
Applicants must have an Honours degree (minimum 2:1) in Psychology, neuroscience or a related discipline, experience of behavioural testing and collecting fMRI and/or MEG data with adult participants, and knowledge of neuroimaging analysis methods (eg, SPM, FSL, Freesurfer, FieldTrip), and/or experience using MATLAB (or related software packages) for statistical data analysis. Excellent oral and written communication skills, with fluency in English, good inter-personal skills, exceptional attention to detail, and a very high level of consideration and care for research volunteers with ability to build rapport with study participants, are also required. Knowledge of confidentiality, data protection, and GDPR is desirable.
The post is available from October 2018 and is funded by a grant from the Wellcome Trust for one year in the first instance. Starting salary £30,922 per annum including London Allowance on UCL Grade 6B.
