Applications are invited for a research assistant to work on magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS) studies on patients with mood and related disorders. This work is led by Professor Philip Cowen and Dr Beata Godlewska. You will be based in the Department of Psychiatry at the Warneford Hospital. The post is full time; however, consideration would be given to candidates looking to work part-time, minimum of 80% FTE on a pro rata basis.
You will learn to carry out brain MRS studies in human participants, and once trained will assist in conducting the day to day running of MRS research projects including recruitment, screening, testing and data processing. You will also assist in the analysis of behavioural and MRS data and will work within the guidelines set out by the GDPR,and GCP.
You will have a BSc in a relevant discipline (e.g. neuroscience or physics) (minimum 2:1 or above), along with demonstrable research experience, including independently managing the day to day running of a research project and being able to relate professionally to patients and participants. With excellent oral and written communication skills, you should also be able to to manage large data sets and conduct analyses using SPSS and/or R. Experience of collecting and analyzing MRS or NMR data would be desirable.
