This is an opportunity for a computer scientist or biomedical engineer (or equivalent) with a background in computing and signal processing to join our multidisciplinary team on a multi-centre European project devoted to traumatic brain injury. PhD in the relevant field is desired but not required.

Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) is one of the most common causes of death in young adults and survivors often suffer from severe disabilities resulting in decreased quality of life and high costs to the society. It is estimated that one in every 200 Europeans and Americans every year will sustain some form of brain injury. Despite many advances in critical care the disease is not yet fully understood and the outcome for TBI patients has not changed much over the past two decades. The international project CENTER-TBI (Collaborative European NeuroTrauma Effectiveness Research) has been started in order to collect complete data set from hundreds of TBI patients across many European centres and develop new, data-driven, technologies/methodologies to further our understanding of the disease and provide better tools for computer guided therapies. The project is currently in its final data analysis stage.

We are looking to recruit a full time Research Associate or Assistant to join 'Brain Physics' group led by Prof Marek Czosnyka and Dr Peter Smielewski, part of Division of Neurosurgery, Department of Clinical Neurosciences. The successful candidate will be involved in various analytical, signal processing tasks on the recorded physiological time series, integration of the data with clinical information collected using other tools, and creation of software tools in support of that.

In addition the candidate will be expected to integrate fully into all the data collection and analysis activities of the Brain Physics group (http://www.neurosurg.cam.ac.uk/research-groups/brain-physics-lab/) including managing the data repository, the database, the websites, and implementation of the new data processing methods into our flagship software ICM+ ®  (http://icmplus.neurosurg.cam.ac.uk)
