Professor Narender Ramnani Steps into Presidency at the British Neuroscience Association
29th April 2025
Applications are invited for one GSK-funded Research Associate position starting 01/11/2018. The successful candidate will be based in the Department of Psychology and will join the laboratory of Professor Jeffrey Dalley (see: https://www.psychol.cam.ac.uk/people/jwd20@cam.ac.uk). The lab focuses on the psychological and brain mechanisms of drug addiction, OCD, ADHD, depression and Parkinson's disease, and uses translational methodologies to bridge fundamental discoveries in brain science with the development of new therapies.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the experimental programme of research within a recently funded GSK Varsity Award aiming to establish a preclinical platform of drug discovery based on pathological immune reactions to early life stressors. This behavioural neuroscience project involves the use of sophisticated touchscreen tasks to assess objective measures of fatigue, apathy and anhedonia in rats with a history of early life social stress. The successful candidate will be responsible for behavioural phenotyping, sample collection for peripheral and central immune profiling, and in collaboration with colleagues at the Wolfson Brain Imaging Centre (WBIC) longitudinal magnetic resonance imaging to evaluate both the integrity of the blood brain barrier and neural markers of brain inflammation.
Applicants must have a PhD in a relevant neuroscience subject, preferably in neurophysiology, neuropharmacology and/or biological psychology. Relevant post-doctoral experience in behavioural neuroscience, including the assessment of translatable behavioural endophenotypes using state-of-the-art touchscreen-based technology is essential. Expertise in programming, data analysis and statistical hypothesis testing would be highly desirable. Applicants should have excellent organisational and communication skills, and be able to work well as part of a team.
Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available until 31 May 2020 in the first instance.
Once an offer of employment has been accepted, the successful candidate will be required to undergo a health assessment and a security check.
