Duties and Responsibilities

We are looking for a Research Fellow interested in the neurobiology of multimodal communication to develop and carry out neuroimaging studies of multimodal real-world communication.

The post is funded as part of Vigliocco’s ERC ECOLANG project which investigates the role of multimodal cues (prosody, gesture, eyegaze, mouth movements) in processing language and learning new concepts/words in real world settings.

The position will involve working on functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) of human speech perception and language comprehension using semi-naturalistic and naturalistic stimuli. The post-holder will be a member of the Language and Cognition Lab (www.language-cognition-lab.org) and the Language, Action, and Brain Lab (http://www.lab-lab.org/). Scanning will be carried out at the Birbeck-UCL Neuroimaging Centre (BUCNI, https://bucni.pals.ucl.ac.uk/). The post holder will also design, run, analyse, and write up behavioural and fMRI experiments.

Key Requirements

Candidates will have a PhD (or be in the process of completing their PhD) in Psychology, Neuroscience, Computer Science or a related field with dissertation work expertise in fMRI. 

Being qualified to run MRI studies and experience with advanced complex network, MVPA, and/or machine learning based approaches to analysing neuroimaging data are desirable.

Appointment at Grade 7 is dependent upon having been awarded a PhD; if this is not the case, initial appointment will be at Research Assistant Grade 6B salary £31,479 - £33,194 per annum) with payment at Grade 7 being backdated to the date of final submission of the PhD thesis.
