We are seeking a highly motivated and well-organised post-doctoral researcher with strong interests in neuroscience and inflammation to work on an exciting project on neuroinflammation, energy metabolism, neurodegeneration and cognitive function. The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. in Neuroimmunology or in a related sphere of neuroscience, immunology or physiology. The current project will examine the impact of systemic inflammation, triggered by Tumor Necrosis Factor alpha (TNF-alpha), on neuroinflammatory, cognitive, metabolic and neurodegenerative processes in animal models of Alzheimer’s disease. The post will involve cellular, molecular, physiological and histological approaches to neuroinflammation, metabolism and neurodegeneration. In addition, the successful applicant will be involved in experiments examining cognitive and behavioural outcomes of systemic inflammation.
Standard Duties and Responsibilities of the Post
• Performance of biochemical analysis of mouse blood and brain tissue.
• Performance of surgical techniques relevant to inflammation and neuroscience (including
stereotaxic surgery, cannulation and implementation of in vivo biosensor experiments).
• Preparation and analysis of histological sections for immunohistochemistry,
immunofluorescence and microscopy.
• Performance of behavioural experiments with mice.
• Analysis of blood and CSF samples as may arise
• Development of new techniques in the laboratory as may arise
• Assistance with the management and supervision of students in the laboratory.
• Preparation of reports, scientific manuscripts and oral presentations.
