Professor Narender Ramnani Steps into Presidency at the British Neuroscience Association
29th April 2025
The UCL Queen Square Institute of Neurology is a global leader in neuroscience and is at the forefront of the mission to translate neuroscience discovery into diagnostics and treatments for patients with neurological diseases.
The Max Planck UCL Centre for Computational Psychiatry and Ageing Research is dedicated to studying the causes of psychiatric disorders as well as the causes of individual differences in cognitive development.
We are now recruiting a Research Fellow/Senior Research Fellow to work on an MRC-funded project: “Memory-based sequential decision making”. The project will address key questions related to the role of memory in goal-directed planning, and the modulating effect of mood and depression symptoms on decision-making. A particular focus will be in computational models of behavioural data (e.g., reinforcement learning) and in multivariate analyses of neuroimaging (MEG) data.
You will design and conduct the behavioural and neuroimaging (MEG) studies that address these questions.
The Institute offers 41 days of annual leave (inclusive of bank holidays and college closure dates), a generous pension scheme, access to UCL’s community benefits including lunch-hour lectures, exhibitions, and museums, as well as an extensive range of staff benefits.
The post is available immediately and is funded for two years in the first instance.
You will hold a PhD in computational, cognitive, or behavioural neuroscience, psychology, computer science, or a related area, and have experience with modelling of behavioural and/or neuroimaging data, programming, and knowledge of at least one programming language. Extensive knowledge of memory and/or decision-making neuroscience literature and a track record of publishing high quality research results are also essential to this role.
A DBS check is required due to the nature of the work and must have been completed satisfactorily before you start in post.
To be appointed as Senior Research Fellow you will need to have prior postdoctoral experience, demonstrable experience of leading projects to completion, and experience of supervising or co-supervising students.
Appointment at Grade 7 is dependent upon having been awarded a PhD; if this is not the case, initial appointment will be at Research Assistant Grade 6B (salary £32,217 - £33,958 per annum) with payment at Grade 7 being backdated to the date of final submission of the PhD thesis.
This is an ongoing recruitment campaign, and we will draw down applications once per month to assess and interview. If you are interested in a role, we encourage you to apply early, and when the post has been filled, we will close the advertisement.
