Professor Narender Ramnani Steps into Presidency at the British Neuroscience Association
29th April 2025
Dementia is the biggest health challenge of our century.
The UK Dementia Research Institute (UK DRI) is the biggest UK initiative supporting research to fill this gap.
Research from UK DRI at UCL covers the journey from the patient to the laboratory and back to the patient with improved diagnosis, biomarkers and candidate therapies put to the test.
The lab currently has an Oxford Nanopore PromethION, PacBio Sequel II, Illumina Nextseq, HiSeq3000, HiSeq2500 and robotics, and there will be the opportunity to share skills with a senior Technician responsible for running the Illumina machines.
The post holder will develop and advance these state-of-the-art technologies, working in close collaboration with researchers in different areas of genomics and neurodegeneration. They will manage the day-to-day running of the facility, organise samples, maintain equipment, undertake data storage and analysis, and train students and users in sequencing techniques.
This role offers a great opportunity for an enthusiastic scientist to develop and expand their skills, with training in short and long-read sequencing and bioinformatics provided on the job, and the opportunity, depending on the person profile, to do a part-time postgraduate degree such as a PhD during the course of the appointment.
Closing date: 23:59, 07 October 2019
