Job description

This post provides an exciting opportunity to contribute to the delivery of Distance Learning MSc/PG Dip/PG Cert programmes in Applied Neuroscience and Psychology & Neuroscience of Mental Health at the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience (IoPPN), King’s College London. The postholder will play a critical role in supporting the distance learning programmes. Their main responsibilities will be to contribute to the delivery of modules by facilitating synchronous and asynchronous student discussions, responding to content specific queries, providing feedback and grading assessments. The successful applicant will also supervise student research projects, undertake administrative responsibilities, and may be asked to develop new online teaching materials.  

This post will be offered on an indefinite contract   

This is a full-time post

Key responsibilities

Development and delivery of education: 

 

•         Contribute to online education (including facilitating student learning, marking and feedback, administration) 

•         Prepare accessible teaching resources, including assessments, as required 

•         Offer and supervise research projects 

•         Enable the delivery of online teaching and learning through development and integration of novel teaching resources and activities 

•         Engage with the student body to ensure a high standard of student satisfaction 

•         Support programme team with quality assurance of online content 

Knowledge exchange: 

•         Dissemination of teaching innovations and initiatives at the programme and Faculty level 

Academic citizenship and management: 

•         Adhere to Faculty and College guidelines and regulations, implementing new requirements as they arise, and incorporating best practice from the wider Higher Education sector 

•         Perform academic and administrative duties to a high standard 

•         Work with colleagues on joint projects  

•         Enable a diverse and inclusive work and education environment in line with the Faculty’s policies 

•         Attend and participate in appropriate seminars with subject related areas 

•         Participate in professional development activities where appropriate 

•         Undertake any other reasonable duties that may be requested by the Module Leads, Programme Leads and/or Divisional Education Lead

Skills, knowledge, and experience

Essential Criteria: 

  1. PhD in Neuroscience, Psychology or a related subject 
  2. Demonstration of appropriate subject knowledge 
  3. Excellent oral and written communication skills 
  4. Experience in developing and delivering excellent teaching in Neuroscience and/or Psychology 
  5. Ability to develop creative teaching and innovative assessment methods 
  6. Experience and understanding of online education 
  7. Excellent IT skills 
  8. Experience with online teaching platforms such as Moodle 
  9. Experience in providing academic guidance for students 
  10. Ability to interact effectively with staff and students 
  11. Demonstrable understanding of, and commitment to, working within the principles of equality, diversity and inclusion 

Desirable criteria: 

  1. Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy or equivalent teaching qualification
