1st meeting of the UK Glia Network

External Event - 9th Sep 2024

UK Glia Network

We are excited to announce that the registration and abstract submission for the inaugural meeting of the UK Glia Network is now open!

The UK Glia Network has recently been founded by a group of researchers passionate about glia. The overall mission of the network is to create an open and interactive community of scientists who are from or working in the UK and interested in pushing the boundaries of glia research. The goals of this community are to encourage networking and collaboration among glia researchers which potentially will lead to impactful discoveries, attracting competitive funding, and promote the sharing of state-of-the-art tools and technologies used to study glia. We hope to reinforce mobility and training of early career researchers and strengthen the UK glia community.

The meeting will take place on the 9th of September 2024, 8.30am – 5.30pm, in Sheffield. The programme includes a poster session and 3 mini-symposiums: The role of glial cells in neurodegeneration, Glia cells in non-mammalian systems/outside the CNS, and Molecular and functional diversity of glial cells. Keynote speakers include Jeffrey Lliff, Roslyn Bill, Alexei Verkhratsky, Soyon Hong and Clare Howarth, and the full event programme is available to view here.

For any queries related to the meeting programme or registration, please, get in touch with Valentina Mosienko (email: valentina.mosienko@bristol.ac.uk) or Isabel Christie (email: i.christie@sheffield.ac.uk).

Follow UK Glia Network on X (Twitter) @UKGlia – or if you are not on social media you can sign up for email updates from the network here.

If you'd like to meet up with other like-minded scientists before the event in September, the UK Glia Network will be hosting a social event at FENS 2024 on the 28th of June 6.45pm Hall G. The social will feature a round table discussion on glia roles in neurodegeneration followed by a wine reception. Please do join us if you are at FENS this summer!
