MRI scanner tours (BAW)

External Event - 12th Mar 2018

Functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (fMRI) is an amazing research tool that has revolutionised how we study the human brain.

Join researchers at the University of Oxford's Centre for Functional MRI of the Brain (FMRIB) on a tour of a working MRI research suite that houses one of only five 7 Tesla MRI scanners of its kind in the country.

See the scanner in action as members of the research and radiographic team explain how it works and how it can be used to preform cutting edge scientific experiments.

There will be an question and answer section at the end and an opportunity for any feedback you would be kind enough to provide.

There will be two sessions of the tour at 6pm and 7pm respectively at the Oxford Centre for Functional MRI of the Brain.

Arrival: Guests are asked to make their own way to FMRIB or gather at the entrance to the West Wing on the JR site. Guests arriving at the West Wing will be collected by a member of staff and brought over to FMRIB as a group. If special provision is required for any guests they should notify us in advance: david.parker@ndcn.ox.ac.uk

NB Guests with pacemakers or other active electronic medical devices are not necessarily precluded from taking the tour. Please contact us if there are any questions. Please don’t include confidential information in emails. We can arrange to discuss any medical device related questions you may have over the phone.

Conditions of visit: FMRIB is a working lab and guests are required to stay with their group and not to enter any part of the building without invitation from a member of FMRIB staff. Guests must under no circumstances enter the 7T magnet room. They should not cross the black and yellow taped line in the 7T console room. The magnet is always on and presents a hazard even when the scanner is not in use. Fire exits and toilet facilities will be pointed out on the way though the building. Guests are not to allow anyone into the building or console room without the permission of a member of FMRIB staff. Guests are politely asked to follow all reasonable instructions that may be given to them by FMRIB staff to insure their safety and the safety of others.
