Job Details

Dementia is the greatest health challenge of our century. To date, there is no way to prevent it or even slow its progression, and there is an urgent need to fill the knowledge gap in our basic understanding of the diseases that cause it.

The UK Dementia Research Institute (UK DRI) is the biggest UK initiative driving forward research to fill this gap.

The UK DRI Headquarters team is based at UCL yet works across all six of the UK DRI host institutions. Collectively the HQ team is responsible for making the distributed UK DRI community function as a single institute, with a shared culture of intensely collaborative research.

The UK DRI financially supports a range of internal research initiatives to encourage innovative, bold research at all career levels. The Awards Officer supports the Science Review Manager in managing the UK DRI’s internal award schemes, helping to oversee internal request for proposal (RFP) mechanisms to solicit, assess and identify projects deserving to be funded, and support peer review activities feeding into final funding decisions.

Person Criteria

You’ll have an understanding of the mission of the UK DRI, a broad familiarity with dementia research, and the funding landscape. Experience of writing funding call documents and guidance, and managing applications and related queries is critical, as are great time management and organisational skills.

Good interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build strong collaborative working relationships with a range of colleagues and stakeholders is essential.
