Neurodegeneration is one of UCL’s key strategic priorities.  Queen Square is the home of the internationally recognised National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery and the UCL Queen Square Institute of Neurology, with strong links with a number of key research groups and exceptional basic neuroscience across UCL. The Leonard Wolfson Centre is part of both the UCL Queen Square Institute of Neurology and UCL’s aspirations for increasing its translational research in neurodegeneration. We are now looking for Clinical Training Fellows to join the Wolfson-Eisai Clinical Doctoral Training Programme designed to run in tandem with the DTP for non-clinical scientists. This is a four year programme which adds a strong link with our industrial partner, Eisai pharmaceuticals.

In the first year, fellows will undertake a range of taught elements and will conduct three 10 week research projects at three different laboratories. From years 2-4, fellows will undertake their PhD research studies. Significant funding will be provided for each fellow to cover the research and equipment (£10,000 per annum) and travel expenses (£1,000 per annum) incurred during their projects. Outstanding fellows will also be encouraged and facilitated to apply for prestigious independent fellowships.

Successful candidates will be a Registered Medical Practitioner and will hold MRCP or equivalent. Completed general medical training is essential. The post holder must be GMC registered and must have a National Training Number. Applicants to this programme will be expected to show evidence of a keen interest in neurodegenerative disease (NDD) research with a long term career aim to pursue clinical academic research in neurodegenerative disease. Candidates must have excellent oral and written communication skills and good inter-personal skills with an ability to work co-operatively in a multidisciplinary setting. Understanding of research methodology and Lab based research experience are desirable.

Posts are available from September 2019 and are funded by the Wolfson Foundation for 4 years in the first instance.
