The appointment will be on UCL Grade CL7. The salary range will be CL7 £35,023 - £43,583 per annum, StR scale £35,570 - £51,215 per annum or Junior Doctor scale £39,553 - £49,300 per annum., inclusive of London Allowance.
Cancer is a major strategic area of UCLH and UCL with a focus on developing novel pathway-directed therapies. There is now an excellent infrastructure allowing clinical trials to be linked with basic science, facilitating targeting of specific molecular abnormalities in cancers with therapeutics. Cancer is a major component of the NIHR/Wellcome UCLH Clinical Research Facility supported by the Wellcome Trust, the NIHR and Cancer Research UK. This position will offer a high quality basic science and translational research experience to a suitably motivated individual who seeks to combine a clinical career in neuro-oncology with scientific research. This post should enable a clinical research fellow to obtain a widely varied laboratory based experience and generate sufficient original research to submit a PhD upon its completion. Duties and responsibilities of the post holder include but are not limited to: develop and initiate research projects (with the guidance of other faculty) - basic and translational, play an active role in other research projects undertaken within the laboratory, develop an in-depth understanding of brain cancer biology and associated basic science. Depending on the applicant’s situation, the applicant will be appointed on either on CL7, or if the applicant is currently in training, he / she will be appointed at StR or Junior Doctor scales. The post is initially funded for 3 years.
The post holder will be required to have a medical degree, be a member of the Royal College of Physicians or equivalent. GMC registration and entry on the appropriate GMC Specialist Register, completed core medical training or equivalent, undergoing or completed higher specialist training in brain tumour research are Essential requirements. Ability to organise and prioritise workload, to delegate responsibility as appropriate and to supervise staff, good inter-personal skills with an ability to work co-operatively in a multidisciplinary setting, ability to work effectively within a team environment & on own initiative are also among Essential requirements.
