Salary
Up to £42,418 per annum
Address
MRC Brain Network Dynamics Unit, University of Oxford
Duration
to end date of 31/03/2020 in first instance
Applications are invited to join a multidisciplinary team at the MRC Brain Network Dynamics Unit (BNDU) at the University of Oxford. We seek an experienced Electronics Engineer to provide electronics and computer-engineering support for research programmes in experimental and clinical neuroscience. Working together with BNDU scientists, the post holder will develop devices to monitor and manipulate neuronal tissue to advance understanding of the brain and to produce novel therapeutic strategies for brain disorders. The post holder will contribute to and oversee device development across levels of implementation, from analogue circuit design, printed circuit board design, and embedded system programming (microcontrollers/DSPs) to host PC interface software. Examples of devices are bespoke high-performance systems for measuring biopotentials and for neural stimulation. Devices are developed for use in small rodents and for testing in patients, and the safety of developed systems is a priority. Candidates must be educated to degree level or equivalent, and should have extensive knowledge, experience and technical competence across a broad range of electronics areas, including the design and development of devices and user support, and be familiar with both higher- and lower-level programming languages. Experience with medical devices, CAD and 3D printing would be an advantage. The post holder will need to work on their initiative, and must be capable of liaising with staff and students at all levels. The post holder will be based on the main site of the BNDU at the Department of Pharmacology, but may occasionally be required to provide support to those BNDU staff working in the Department of Clinical Neurology at the John Radcliffe Hospital. Applications must be made via the University of Oxford’s online recruitment system (recruit.ox.ac.uk), using vacancy ID 133642
