The Nuffield Department of Clinical Neurosciences (NDCN) is seeking an exceptional individual to lead the administration of the department so that it delivers a professional, effective, customer focussed service that supports our world class research programmes. NDCN is the largest clinical neuroscience department in Europe and hosts a large number of world renowned research centres and groups. As a major part of the REF2014 Unit of Assessment4 that was ranked first in the country, it is an important component of Oxford Neuroscience and works highly collaboratively and closely with colleagues from related departments. Over the coming years, the Department will build a new research centre and relocate one institute to another building; there are new and innovative business development opportunities and a rapidly expanding research portfolio that provide an exciting future. The Department has a turnover of ~£30M, a total research portfolio of ~£120M and is split over main three sites. NDCN consists of five Divisions with a total of approximately 380 staff (23 Profs, 33 APs), 180 postdoctoral research scientists, 130 graduate students, and 320 honorary contract holders.

The role of the Head of Administration and Finance (HAF) is an exciting and challenging opportunity to play a key role in the management and development of the Department. The HAF will work closely with the Head of Department to formulate and oversee the Department’s strategy, operation, change management and growth.

The successful applicant needs to have high personal integrity and is required to take a high level of personal responsibility for both their own work and that of the staff under their control. You must have sound judgement under pressure, be able to think laterally and creatively and have the intellectual capacity and strength of character to take and implement important, complex and difficult decisions. The HAF should meet the essential criteria and match most of the desirable criteria.

The post is full-time and permanent.
