About the job
We are looking for an academic with an interest in education to join the Department of Psychosis Studies at the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience (IoPPN), King’s College London, as Senior Lecturer/Lecturer in Psychosis Studies.
The appointee will play a key role in the delivery of postgraduate teaching including our large flagship Mental Health Studies programme. This is the largest clinically oriented course at IoPPN and caters for nearly 120 students per annum. In addition, the successful candidate will be expected to provide some support to the MSc Early Intervention in Psychosis, which caters for about 40 students.
It is expected the post-holder will dedicate about 95% of their time on teaching-related activities. Previous experience teaching graduate or post-graduate students and strong motivation towards high-quality education and student experience are essential.

This post is available as a 12-month fixed-term contract initially (until 31st July 2023). Extensions may be possible.

Key responsibilities
Teaching (95%)
Specific duties and responsibilities in this area include:
- Leading key modules on MSc programmes;
- Contributing to classroom teaching;
- Marking coursework assignments and exam scripts;
- Helping coordinate the clinical placement scheme;
- Development and modification of teaching content.
- Attendance at relevant teaching meetings, including monthly programme meetings, and fortnightly faculty meetings.
- Monitoring and responding to student feedback.
- Acting as personal tutor to 15 students.
- Keeping abreast of faculty innovations in educational practice and contributing to implementation of such changes as necessary (for example in technology enhanced learning and assessment and feedback).
Administration (5%)
Specific duties and responsibilities in this area include:
- To contribute to admin/other duties as directed.

Skills, knowledge, and experience
Essential criteria
- Undergraduate degree in psychology or related area
- PhD in a relevant subject
- Experience of graduate or post-graduate teaching
- Experience of graduate or post-graduate supervision
- Commitment to student learning and student experience
- High level of fluency in spoken and written English, academically
- Capable of working effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team
- Sympathetic to the needs and open to the opinions of graduate students currently studying within the higher education sector
- Very good presentation and communication skills
- Peer reviewed publications related to mental health
Desirable criteria
- Experience in the organisation and administration around postgraduate teaching
- Track record of successful research grant applications, or attempts to obtain grant funding
- Experience of working in mental health settings
