About the role:

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced imaging scientist to drive forward new methodologies and clinical neuroscience applications on a newly installed time-of-flight PET-MRI system in partnership with collaborators across the University and NHS trust.

You will develop clinical research programs within the Department of Neuroscience including the Sheffield Institute for Translational Neuroscience (SITraN), one of the world-leading centre’s for research into neurodegenerative diseases and the Sheffield Biomedical Research Centre. SITraN is a part of the new Neuroscience Institute at the University of Sheffield, one of only four Flagship Institutes set up to tackle key issues facing humanity by cross-faculty collaborations.

You will develop novel PET-MRI methodologies for the nervous system working in close collaboration with one of the country’s leading medical imaging groups, based in the Department of Imaging, Infection, Immunity & Cardiovascular Disease (I3CD). The group have a strong track record in imaging technology development and clinical translation working in collaboration with researchers across the University and Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.

We aim to collaborate and support clinical and non-clinical researchers across all Departments in the Faculty of Medicine Dentistry and Health and the wider University to further grow clinical applications and methodological depth in this area of strategic research priority in Advanced Biomedical Imaging.

In your role, you will have the full support of the Imaging group, the department, the faculty and the University.

You should have a good honours degree (or equivalent) and a PhD in imaging - physics or engineering. You will contribute to the undergraduate and postgraduate teaching programmes of the department and faculty and will be involved with the assessment of students. They will take on mentoring responsibilities for a small group of students on the MBChB programme.

The successful candidate will benefit from a range of seminar series and other scientific meetings held within the group, department and the Faculty. The post holder will present their findings at group and departmental meetings, and national and international conferences. The candidate will be expected to publish research findings in high-quality, international journals and work towards clinical translation for patient benefit.
