This is an exciting opportunity for a postdoctoral scientist to contribute to the validation of novel drug targets for dementia. The position is at the interface between academic research and pharmaceutical drug discovery. The successful candidate will be based at the Sir William Dunn School of Pathology, where he/she will employ cutting edge research tools to explore the role of innate immunity mechanisms that have been implicated by genome wide association studies in Alzheimer’s disease. There will be the opportunity to utilise human induced pluripotent stem cell models and to examine expression of inflammatory genes in human brain material (laboratory of Dr Ansorge). The position being funded by Janssen would enable, if necessary, spending some time in the laboratories of the pharmaceutical company in Beerse, Belgium.

The successful candidate will have a PhD in neuroscience, cell/molecular biology or equivalent experience; experience in cell culture, preferably human pluripotent stem cells; experience in setting up cellular assays including image-based experiments and the candidate will be highly motivated, with the capacity to think creatively and a demonstrated ability to work across teams.
