Sleep and Circadian Neuroscience Institute

Sir William Dunn School of Pathology

An exciting opportunity has become available to become a member of the sleep and circadian neuroscience research group with the responsibility of carrying out research on circadian rhythms, sleep and neuropsychiatric disease. The postholder will report to Professor Russell Foster (NDCN) and Dr Sridhar Vasudevan (Pharmacology).

The departments’ previous work profiled deficits in circadian rhythms in fibroblasts derived from bipolar patients and validated a number of existing and novel chronotherapeutics and potential sleep modulators. This project will involve delineating the molecular mechanisms that underlie these disruptions in animal models and identifying further pharmacological modulators and pathways for stabilisation of sleep and circadian rhythms as a therapeutic strategy.

The postholder will be required to hold a relevant PhD/DPhil in Pharmacology or neuroscience together with relevant experience, as well as hold a Home Office License (modules 1-3) and have experience working with animals. It is essential that the postholder has excellent communication skills, including the ability to write for publication, present research proposals and results, and represent the research group at meetings. It will be expected that the postholder manage their own academic research and associated activities, as well as contribute to new ideas for research projects and research income generation.

Previous experience in cell culture, molecular/cell biology and circadian rhythms is essential. The postholder will be expected to provide guidance to less experienced members of the research group, including research assistants and DPhil and project students.

The post is full-time for a fixed-term of 3 years in the first instance.

Only applications received before 12.00 midday on Friday 28 September 2018 will be considered. Interviews will be held as soon as possible thereafter.
