Applications are invited for a Research Fellow to join the EIT Food funded O-Live project working with academics and businesses to develop targeted advice and interventions that are tailored to consumers’ health goals. The School of Psychology and Clinical Language Sciences at the University of Reading has a strong reputation for research in Applied Behavioural Science.

The post holder will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team in the area of Food Choice, in a project that is sponsored by EIT Food in collaboration with industry partners in Northern Ireland (Analytics Engines) and Belgium (EUFIC), which builds on a previous successful ESRC project. The purpose of this innovation project is to support healthy food choices by helping develop a tool that builds on previous research on psychological, sensory and economic factors that influence behaviour to tailor food advice to consumers.

We are seeking a highly-capable and highly-motivated individual with excellent organisation and communication skills to work as part of the pan-European team of collaborators on this project.

The successful candidate will have:

  • Excellent organisational skills, able to coordinate multiple activities simultaneously while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills, able to support successful collaboration between the project’s academic, industrial and outreach partners, and to communicate appropriately with the general public.
  • Experience of and a high level of understanding of behavioural research, data handling and statistical analysis.
  • A PhD in psychology, or a closely allied discipline.

The School of Psychology & Clinical Language Sciences (www.reading.ac.uk/pcls/) was ranked in the top 20 (15th) in the UK in the 2014 Research Excellence Framework. It comprises approx 180 academic, research, clinical and professional & administrative staff. Within the School there are three major research divisions (Psychopathology & Affective Neuroscience; Perception, Cognition & Nutrition; Language, Development & Ageing), three NHS research clinics (Anxiety & Depression; Speech & Language Therapy; Dementia), and an independent Centre for Autism. It is home to the Charlie Waller Institute (www.reading.ac.uk/charliewaller/cwi-home.aspx) and the Centre for Integrative Neuroscience and Neurodynamics (www.reading.ac.uk/cinn/cinn-home.aspx). The School also delivers a BSc Psychology programme at the University of Reading Malaysia (http://www.reading.edu.my/). It holds a bronze Athena Swan award.
