Applications are invited for a postdoctoral research scientist in cellular neuroscience to work at the Laboratory of Molecular Neurodegeneration at the Oxford Parkinson's Disease Centre to perform studies of disease mechanisms and target discovery in induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC)-derived neuronal models of Parkinson’s disease.
This is an exciting opportunity for a postdoctoral neuronal cell biologist to contribute to the development of novel therapeutic target discovery for Parkinson’s. The postholder will use CRISPR/Cas9 genome engineering of human iPSC lines from Parkinson’s patients differentiated into dopamine neurons to investigate disease mechanisms and test new therapeutic targets. The project will be performed in collaboration with GSK and offers an exciting collaboration to work at the translational interface of academic and industry target discovery.
Duties will include analysis of cell biology and gene expression in iPSC-derived neurons from Parkinson’s patients, and other cell models; interpretation of data; design and implementation of experiments; and preparation of data for publication; managing own academic research and administrative activities involving small scale project management; contribute ideas for new research projects and develop ideas for generating research income and act as a source of information and advice to other members of the group on scientific protocols and experimental techniques. You will have excellent practical experience of working with neuronal cell cultures and good knowledge of cellular models of neurodegenerative disease. The ability to innovate, troubleshoot technical problems, be meticulous in practical work and in record keeping is also essential. Applicants must have a PhD/DPhil in neuroscience, biochemistry or cell/molecular biology, or equivalent in a biological subject and have experience in cellular neuroscience, cell biology or biochemistry.
This is a 2 year fixed-term contract and is available to start as soon as possible. The post will be based in the Laboratory of Molecular Neurodegeneration, Le Gros Clark Building, South Parks Road, Oxford OX1 3QX.
