An opportunity has arisen to join the laboratory of Professor Gero Miesenboeck at the Centre for Neural Circuits and Behaviour. The project entitled “The Regulation and Function of Sleep” will seek to understand why we need to sleep by studying how the brain responds to sleep loss.
The successful applicant will be responsible for synthesis and maintenance of fly stocks, molecular biology, imaging, electrophysiology, behavioural assays and project management. You will also be manage your own academic research and administrative activities, develop new ideas to generate research income, use specialist equipment in a laboratory environment and act as a source of information and advice to other group members.
The successful applicant will have a PhD or MD in a natural science, engineering, or medicine conferred recently (within the last 5 years). You will have extensive knowledge and understanding of cellular biophysics, significant experience with patch-clamp electrophysiology, electroencephalogram recordings, analysis of large imaging and/or electrophysiological datasets and experience with molecular cloning techniques and biochemical assays. You will have laboratory experience with light microscopy techniques and behaviour studies. You will be able to work independently and as part of a research team. You will have a minimum of two research publications in peer-reviewed journals with a least one first or co-authorship.
The post holder will be based at the Centre for Neural Circuits and Behaviour, Tinsley Building, Mansfield Road, Oxford, OX1 3TA.
