The Otto-von-Guericke University Magdeburg, together with its associated partner institutions, has an internationally renowned scientific profile in Neuroscience. The newly established Collaborative Research Center (CRC/SFB) 1436 „Neural Resources of Cognition“ strengthens the integration and interdisciplinary research of neuroscientific research groups in Magdeburg. The Department of Sensory Physiology in the Institute of Biology (IBIO), headed by Prof. Kristine Krug, seeks to recruit a postdoctoral research scientist for the project C05 „Intervening in circuits for cognitive resource allocation in primates“ of the CRC 1436. The four-year project (in collaboration with Prof. Petra Ritter, Charite Berlin) takes a combined theoretical and empirical approach to investigate causally - from neurons to behaviour - how resource allocation in visual and parietal brain regions can be controlled by altering functional connectivity in the closest animal model to human cognition, the rhesus monkey. In this project, we combine ultrasound brain modulation, highfield MRI (at 7T), neurophysiological recordings, behavioural tasks and computational modelling to control resource allocation in decision tasks. Your Profile: - Master’s degree or equivalent and a doctoral degree in neurosciences, biology, medicine, computation or a related field - Experience with neurophysiology, MRI, ultrasound stimulation, psychophysics and/or neurocomputation - Interest in / experience with research with non-human primates is essential - Strong academic/research record - Focus and motivation to make a significant contribution to and develop an ambitious research programme as part of an interdisciplinary, international research team.

Magdeburg is a vibrant university city on the river Elbe, which was founded in 805. It offers a wide range of cultural activities and an international student community with a Masters in Neuroscience taught entirely in English. The Otto-von-Guericke-University has a strong focus on natural sciences, engineering and medicine and benefits from close links with Max-Planck-, Leibniz-, Helmholtz- and Fraunhofer-Institutes in the city. Magdeburg was the first European site to routinely operate ultra-high field MR in brain imaging (7T since 2004) and co-coordinates both the European and the German networks for ultra-high field imaging (EUFIND and GUFI). Magdeburg is a development partner for MRI of Siemens / Healthineers and its functional imaging facilities are perhaps the most extensive in Europe (7T MRI, five 3T MRI, SPECT, MR-PET, exclusively for research), including in Germany unique facilities for primate research at high field MRI. Magdeburg is the state capital of Sachsen-Anhalt and lies about 90 minutes travelling time west of Berlin. It is also within easy reach of Hannover, Goettingen, Leipzig and Prague. Quality of life is high, cost of living low.
