Building upon the world class knowledge and skills of its team, Talisman is committed to revolutionising the treatment of Alzheimer’s disease by using proprietary human stem cell models of Alzheimer’s disease to develop novel therapeutics.

We are currently seeking to recruit a Principal Scientist to join our expanding team. The successful candidate will lead a group of research scientists, and play a key role in the design, delivery and management of a number of exciting preclinical research projects focussed on the cell and molecular biology of neurodegeneration. The ideal candidate will combine ongoing engagement with active bench research with team leadership. In addition to directing a research group, practical tasks include working with human stem cell models of neurodegeneration and neurological disease to deliver drug discovery projects, including novel target identification and validation, and whole genome and small
molecule phenotypic screens. Candidates must be able to work independently, be collaborative and collegiate, and demonstrate a proven track record of team leadership in a research environment.

Key areas of responsibility:
- Research team leadership;
- Design and management of research projects (internal and collaborative);
- Design and execution of experimental work and subsequent analysis to support drug
discovery and pathway validation in human stem cell systems;
- Effective communication of findings (verbal and written).

Essential skills and qualifications:
Essential qualifications are a minimum of a 2.1 class honours degree in the biological or physical sciences and a PhD in the biological or physical sciences. Essential skills include advanced hands-on expertise in at least one of: molecular/cell biology, cell culture, neuroscience or neurodegeneration research. It is also desirable for the successful candidate to have experience in supervising and leading the research of junior colleagues. We require a minimum of three years’ postdoctoral research experience in academic and/or commercial settings.

The role will be based at the Babraham Research Campus, Cambridge. We can offer the successful candidate excellent benefits and remuneration. Salary will be in the region of £38,000-£48,000 depending on experience. Should you wish to be considered for this
