EPIC is supported by funding from the European Regional Development Fund, part of the European Structural and Investment Funds and the South West Academic Health Science Network.

University of Plymouth, in collaboration with a number of partners, has been awarded European funding to improve the use of e-health in Cornwall. The E-health Productivity and Innovation in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly (EPIC) project will start in May 2017 for 3 years.

We have five vacancies for full time research assistants who will work together. Professor Ray Jones is the overall Project Director but each of the research assistants will be supervised by different members of the team. For this post we seek a research assistant to work with other team members to ensure that proposals and products are built on sound evidence and theory related to behaviour change. This post is supervised by Professors Jackie Andrade and Jon May.

You should have an interest in developing e-health (including devices), engaging with health and social care professionals, patients, care home residents, and community groups in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly. You should have a good first degree or equivalent in psychology. Preference will be given to those with Masters or PhD degrees. You must have good communication and team working skills and an understanding of health and social care.  A driving licence and willingness to travel within Cornwall is essential. You will be expected to work at 'hot desks' provided for the project in GP surgeries and care homes in Liskeard, Redruth, and St Ives, in office space close to the Royal Cornwall Hospital in Truro, as well as in Plymouth. You can also work from home. Other members of the project will be working mainly with small software, design and development companies in Cornwall.

There are five research posts currently being advertised. If your skills and interests cross two of the above posts, you can apply for both. We will appoint all five posts depending on the best skills mix we can achieve and it is possible we may re-configure posts for outstanding candidates.

The successful applicant will be working with stakeholders (healthcare professionals, patients and members of the public), developing our Functional Imagery Training intervention and encouraging stakeholders to use FIT and other psychological ideas in their e-health innovations.  We are looking for someone with a strong psychology background and specific knowledge of behaviour change in the context of health behaviours, and strong research methods training. Experience of motivational interviewing and the use of mental imagery to change behaviour would be an advantage. A clean, current driving licence is essential, as the post holder will need to travel throughout Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.
