Wellcome Trust Centre for Neuroimaging: Max Planck UCL Centre for Computational Psychiatry and Ageing Research

 

Duties and Responsibilities

Applications are invited for a Research Associate in the Max Planck UCL Centre for Computational Psychiatry and Ageing Research, under the supervision of Professor Ray Dolan. The overarching goal of the Max Planck UCL Centre for Computational Psychiatry and Ageing Research is to use computational approaches to understand the causes of individual differences in behavioural development, with an emphasis on psychiatric disorders and cognitive ageing. The Centre is a collaboration between the Max Planck Society and University College London and has two sites, one in London and the other in Berlin.

The post holder will undertake high-quality research and produce high-impact publications as part of a new initiative, involving the Max Planck Society and UCL. The goal of the initiative is to exploit computational approaches to brain and behaviour to leverage insights into core deficits that underpin psychiatric disorder and cognitive change with ageing. Suitably qualified candidates will have the opportunity to develop their own group and will be supported in doing so.

The post is available from January 2018 and is funded by a grant from the Max Planck Society for 2 years in the first instance.

 

Key Requirements

Applicants must have, or be close to obtaining, a PhD in neuroscience, psychology, or a related area (the degree must have been obtained by the agreed start date in the post) and experience of conducting neuroimaging research. Experience in acquiring and analysing fMRI, MEG and EEG data is essential. Experience in Hierarchical Bayesian model-fitting and model-selection techniques, using and developing advanced neuroimaging data analysis, computational modelling of behaviour (reinforcement learning and similar), and programming in Matlab are desirable, as are solid knowledge of microeconomics, Game theory, computer science, classification and clustering methods in machine learning and theoretical neuroscience, and psychopathology and associated treatments.
