This post is based in the Department of Life Science, one of the largest Departments in the University attracting high numbers of students on a range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. At undergraduate level, we offer several taught degree courses, including Biomedical Science, Healthcare Science, Human Bioscience and Human Physiology.

There are taught Masters programmes in Biomedical Science and Clinical Science. The Department also provides research training programmes for doctorate and Masters level research students. The Department resides within the Faculty of Science and Engineering and benefits from spacious, modern and well-equipped teaching and research facilities having benefitted from recent significant and on-going investment.

We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic and dedicated postdoctoral research associate to join the laboratory of Professor Sonia Corrêa to investigate the role the p38-MK2 cascade as a protective target in Alzheimer’s disease. The core aim of this project is to perform behavioural experiments and in vitro electrophysiological recordings (extracellular recordings). The project will also give the successful candidate the opportunity to develop skills in biochemistry and imaging techniques. Part of this project will be developed at the University of Manchester.

Candidates will have a first degree and higher degree in Neuroscience, or a closely related subject and research expertise in the field of Neuroscience, particularly synaptic plasticity, neuroinflammation and Alzheimer’s disease.

The role will include designing and carrying out experiments, data collection, analysis and interpretation of the data to produce high-quality publications in internationally recognised journals. The successful candidate will have excellent research potential as demonstrated by publications and conference presentations, together with research skills and experience to work independently and in a team. The successful candidate will help the group develop ideas for research studies and pursuing bids for future funding to expand research excellence at the Manchester Metropolitan University.
