Job Details

We are seeking a highly motivated and well-organised individual with a strong interest in neuroscience and inflammation. The successful candidate will have a PhD in a related sphere of Neuroscience or Innate immunology/inflammation. We are particularly interested in applicants with experience in cognitive and behavioural experiments and with an interest in brain inflammation and neurodegeneration. Ideally, we would also like to speak with applicants with experience of surgical techniques relevant to neuroscience.

The successful applicant will be responsible for performing interdisciplinary research on the subject of brain inflammation, neurodegeneration, brain neurochemistry and acute cognitive impairments.

Person Criteria

  • Essential Qualifications: Research Fellow must hold a PhD in a relevant area of Neuroscience and/or Immunology
  • The ideal candidate will have knowledge of neuroinflammation, neurodegeneration, innate immunity or psychoneuroimmunology and should have laboratory experience of working in these areas. In addition, a good understanding of concepts and practice in neuroscience and/or innate immunity will be important to the post. Applicants must be competent in the use of standard word processing, data handling, statistical and graphical software. The successful candidate should also have already demonstrated research productivity and independent thinking during their post-graduate studies and/or early post-doctoral work.
  • Experience of working with mice is essential. Experience of behavioural/cognitive assessment of mice and/or of stereotaxic surgery would confer a significant advantage for applicants as these will be significant parts of the post. Experience in standard biochemical techniques such as quantitative PCR, ELISA, western blotting is essential and additional experience in molecular biological techniques is desirable. Experience FACS/cell sorting would also be of benefit to the position. The ideal candidate will have knowledge of neuroinflammation and neurodegeneration and experience of murine experimental neuropathology. The proposed experiments involve stereotaxic injections, cannulation and biosensor experiments and experience in these techniques (with FELASA-approved training in animal experimentation) and/or electrophysiological expertise would confer a strong advantage for applicants. However, this is not an absolute requirement.
