The successful candidate will be joining the Dreosti Lab at the WIBR (Faculty of Medicine) and will undertake research into the development of the neuronal circuits of social behaviour and characterisation of nociception responses in zebrafish. The research focuses on identification of specific anatomical brain areas activated during social and nociceptive behaviour, functional characterization of neuronal populations, phenotypical identification of mutant fish, data analysis.

In addition to laboratory-based research and experimental design, the candidate will write and communicate results as scientific papers and in scientific presentations at national and international conferences. The post holder will be responsible for ensuring that his/her experiments are conducted safely, according to the Wolfson Institute's and UCL's Health and Safety policies.

The position is available immediately and will be funded for 1 year in the first instance.

We are seeking a highly motivated post-doc with a post-graduate degree (PhD) in Developmental Biology/Neuroscience, System Neuroscience or a similar area.  Extensive training using the zebrafish model system with a focus on the nervous system, and working knowledge in Python or MATLAB is required.

Knowledge and training in cutting edge molecular techniques (e.g. genome editing, PCR, CRISPR, immunohystochemistry), microscopy (two-photon and confocal) is preferable. The applicant should have ability to initiate experiments and to work independently, to conduct research with integrity and accountability.

Excellent oral and written communication skills and good inter-personal skills are also required.

Please note: Appointment at Grade 7 is dependent upon having been awarded a PhD; if this is not the case, initial appointment will be at research assistant Grade 6B (salary £30,922 - £32,607 per annum) with payment at Grade 7 being backdated to the date of final submission of the PhD thesis (including corrections).
