Newcastle University Research Fellowship in Molecular or Cellular Biology

Are you a future research leader?
£39,992 – £42,418 (with progression to £47,722)

The Faculty of Medical Sciences (FMS) at Newcastle University is committed to recruiting and mentoring early career scientists who have demonstrated the potential to be future research leaders in their field. We have a research fellowship position which has been sponsored by the Rosetrees Trust and Stoneygate Trust and will be entitled the Rosetrees and Stoneygate Research Fellowship.

We are offering an exciting new fellowship opportunity for a post-doctoral scientist with the ambition and track record to develop into an independent research investigator. We are keen to receive applications from scientists who are applying cutting edge molecular and cellular biology technologies to make novel discoveries and gain important new insights relevant to disease within our key biology themes. These include (but are not limited to) ageing, immunobiology, bacterial cell biology, cancer cell biology, inflammation, wound healing and tissue repair, cellular metabolism, mitochondrial biology, neuroscience and the genetics and epigenetics of complex diseases.

You will typically have at least 3 years of active post-doctoral experience. Your CV and publication track record will clearly demonstrate scientific excellence and an ability to innovate which, with the help of our dedicated mentorship scheme, can be expected to lead to funding of your science by research councils, major charities and industry. The fellow will be supported and resourced to establish their own independent research team and, if successful in sustaining and growing an internationally competitive group, can expect to be offered an open ended faculty appointment at the end of the fellowship term. Competitive start up packages are also available.

You must have a PhD in the subject area, an excellent publication record and be highly competitive and eligible for prestigious externally funded fellowship awards appropriate to the level of post-doctoral experience. Career breaks will be taken into account at each fellowship level.

If you already have external funding that you can bring to Newcastle, we would welcome hearing from you. In these circumstances you would be considered for fast tracking.
