Applications are invited to the above role to provide research support, technical expertise and laboratory management within the Corneal Regeneration group of Academic Ophthalmology. 

The position will form part of a team working to develop novel therapies for the front of the eye using stem cells and preservation techniques for human donor tissue. 

Responsibilities will include:

  • Providing research support including the extraction and culture of cells and performing analysis techniques including PCR, western blots, immunostaining and histological techniques.
  • Providing technical expertise and training to other staff and students on the above techniques.
  • Assisting with health and safety in the department, including writing documents and implementing policies to provide a safe working environment.
  • Overseeing the day-to-day running of the Academic Ophthalmology laboratories, including placing orders, liaising with maintenance services and allocating resources.

Candidates must have a minimum of HNC in a relevant subject, or equivalent qualifications plus considerable relevant technical/scientific experience in a relevant role OR substantial work experience in a relevant technical or scientific role.

The role holder should be able to demonstrate substantial laboratory experience, including working with human and animal tissue and cells.

The ability to work independently and with initiative is desirable for the role.

The successful candidate should be a proficient computer user and demonstrate good IT skills.

This position will be offered on a fixed-term contract until 31 May 2020. Hours of work will be part-time (29 per week). Job share arrangements may be considered.
