The Wiseman research group at the UK DRI at UCL are looking for a Senior Research Fellow to join the team at the Mary Lyon Centre (MLC) at the MRC Harwell Institute in Oxford.

Dementia is the biggest health challenge of our century.

The UK Dementia Research Institute (UK DRI) is the biggest UK initiative supporting research to fill this gap.

Research from UK DRI at UCL covers the journey from the patient to the laboratory and back to the patient with improved diagnosis, biomarkers and candidate therapies put to the test.

Duties and Responsibilities

You will develop novel assessment methods for the quantification of mouse behaviour and cognition. You’ll build on existing programmes (DeepLabCut, DeepSqueak etc) to develop new analytical tools to identify and classify changes in rodent behaviour. Working closely with Dr Wiseman you will combine the data gleaned from these methods with research outputs from the UK DRI and MLC to provide pioneering mechanistic understanding of neurodegeneration.

The post is available from January 2020 and funded by the UK DRI at UCL until 18 August 2024 in the first instance.

Key Requirements

  • PhD in Neuroscience coupled with experience in the development of phenotypic assessment of mice and experimental design of mouse studies.
  • You’ll have demonstrable experience of leading independent research projects, along with training and supervising staff or students.
  • Programming proficiency and experience of statistical analysis is essential and an understanding of rodent behaviour and familiarity with DeepLabCut or DeepSqueak would be highly desirable.
  • You’ll be a part of the UK DRI and MLC research communities so a collaborative and collegiate approach to research is essential.
