  • To describe Attachment Theory and the different attachment categories

  • To consider the function of attachment behaviour in the context of stress and anxiety

  • To develop an understanding of the impact of trauma on attachment relationships and on emotional and behavioural presentation in childhood and adolescence

  • To consider practical application (strategies and interventions) in the work place.

Ideal for:

This course is highly relevant to a wide range of staff. From early years and health visiting to pastoral staff in high school as well as practitioners in the voluntary and statutory sector working to support children and families.

Overview:

Our attachment patterns are created in the context of our earliest relationships. They provide a blue print for later social interactions and relationships. Attachment behaviours are activated at times of stress and perceived danger.

Secure attachment relationships provide an optimal context for children to explore and learn. Where children have attachment difficulties or disorders this can result in behavioural and emotional responses that are hard to understand and challenging to manage.

This course provides a framework for understanding and effective intervention.
